Diabetes – the Antidote

Last week a friend of many years dropped by and was obviously in a bad mood when they arrived – he even admitted it. When asked why he was so grumpy he recounted how his Doctor wanted him to return … Continue reading

ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS – WHY USE THEM

The human body is a remarkable thing but strangely it can get addicted to things. All addictions are harmful in some way but we have become so sensitised to food being sweet that a huge number of people are effectively addicted to sucrose or glucose or artificial sweeteners – e.g.. sucralose, splenda, Nutrasweet. If we use sucrose or glucose we pile on the pounds and we crave sugar with everything. This addiction is at the root of the epidemics of obesity, diabetes, dental decay and so much more. By listening to chemical and food companies who substitute sugar with artificial sweeteners we are storing up equally serious problems.
Chocoholics that includes you too.
We need to try to get back to a diet that contains far less sucrose and avoid artificial sweeteners like the plague. Continue reading

DIABETES HELP

The odds are that you, or someone you know, has diabetes already or is at risk for developing this disease. Nearly 21 million Americans-or roughly 1 in every 14 people-have diabetes, and many more are at risk (the proportionate figures for the UK are much the same). Of course, if you or someone you love has diabetes, the disorder is about much more than a statistic. It means a new way of life. Eating a meal, planning a vacation, or going for a run requires forethought and planning.

The top medical journal, NEJM in May 2001 proclaimed that in fact one can "cure" type two diabetes with diet and exercise. The dietary modifications were able to reduce the rate of diabetes by nearly 60% and they did that without even understanding some of the most basic foundational truths of food choices. These investigators were absolutely clueless with respect to the influence of grain and sugar restriction on insulin optimization. So if the traditionally recommended low-fat diet can reduce diabetes by 60%, if one uses the modified food choice program you can reduce type two diabetes by well over 95%. Continue reading

DIABETES and TREHALOSE

Diabetes is endemic in western society today and it is increasing all over the world where we see people switch to a diet rich in simple starch and carbohydrates. China, Nigeria, Kenya, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Europe, America, Canada are all reporting explosive growth in diabetes. We have to find an answer which changes habits and Trehalose may be a very convenient easily adoptable component of the solution. Continue reading

Plant Sugars | Are They Worth It? |

Just once in a while something comes along which stops you in your tracks. Almost 9 years ago i came across a new discovery relating to plant sugars. I’d always thought that sugar was sugar. Well as it happens that’s not quite true. I think it was George Orwell in his book 1984 who said ‘all animals are created equal: but some are more equal than others. The same can be said for plant sugars – they are all sugars but some are more helpful than others. Sucrose is useful for providing the body with glucose but in today’s world we simply get too much of either or both. Galactose comes mainly from milk (lactose – Galactose) but as half the western population is lactose intolerant half of the population don’t get that one. There are many sugars in nature – over 200 in reality but there are a very few – maybe 11 or 12 biologically active sugars that are centrally involved in a whole range of physiological functions.  What arrested me 9 years a go was the possibility that lack of health was not due to anything other than lack of specific nutrients in our diets and it is this that has consumed my attention for the last 9 years. A few years later it dawned on me that in some areas too much glucose (or food that produces glucose) is one of the major causes of weight gain and diabetes. This is the subject of another discussion – but in simple terms biologically active sugars and other key nutrients like Omega 3 EFA should be our first recourse when faced witrh falling health not automatically drugs. We need pharmaceutical drugs but not automatically when faced with many health challenges. We need Doctors who understand diet and essential nutrients and pharmaceutical drugs.  paul@sugars4life.com www.sugars4life.com US 615 692 1173 UK 44 (0) 1752 769090 Continue reading
