STATIN DRUGS – KNOW THE DANGERS

If you use any drug with the word statin in it then you need to read this material and make up your own mind. The question should be “are they effective in reducing heart disease”?
In very simple terms the pharmaceutical companies produced statin type drugs to respond to the belief that you can reduce the incidence of heart attacks by reducing the level of cholesterol in the blood.
The basis for the belief and use of statins comes from the call to adopt low fat/low cholesterol diets of the late 1980s and 1990s.
Maybe, just maybe, its not a sound decision. Continue reading

SICKLE CELL – A PARENTS GUIDE

Get your complementary Parents Guide to Sickle Cell Sickle Cell was very poorly understood as recently as 1960. It existed we just didn’t understand it. There is a hope of a cure based upon stem cells but so far Sickle Cell is essentially incurable. Pharmaceutical drugs don’t work well with Sickle Cell in the long term and our focus has been on management of the condition. So we work to help parents and adults help their children and themselves to live full and productive lives. Continue reading

Plant Sugars | Are They Worth It? |

Just once in a while something comes along which stops you in your tracks. Almost 9 years ago i came across a new discovery relating to plant sugars. I’d always thought that sugar was sugar. Well as it happens that’s not quite true. I think it was George Orwell in his book 1984 who said ‘all animals are created equal: but some are more equal than others. The same can be said for plant sugars – they are all sugars but some are more helpful than others. Sucrose is useful for providing the body with glucose but in today’s world we simply get too much of either or both. Galactose comes mainly from milk (lactose – Galactose) but as half the western population is lactose intolerant half of the population don’t get that one. There are many sugars in nature – over 200 in reality but there are a very few – maybe 11 or 12 biologically active sugars that are centrally involved in a whole range of physiological functions.  What arrested me 9 years a go was the possibility that lack of health was not due to anything other than lack of specific nutrients in our diets and it is this that has consumed my attention for the last 9 years. A few years later it dawned on me that in some areas too much glucose (or food that produces glucose) is one of the major causes of weight gain and diabetes. This is the subject of another discussion – but in simple terms biologically active sugars and other key nutrients like Omega 3 EFA should be our first recourse when faced witrh falling health not automatically drugs. We need pharmaceutical drugs but not automatically when faced with many health challenges. We need Doctors who understand diet and essential nutrients and pharmaceutical drugs.  paul@sugars4life.com www.sugars4life.com US 615 692 1173 UK 44 (0) 1752 769090 Continue reading
